AMERICUS — Georgia Power Area Manager Jem Morris presented a donation from the Georgia Power Foundation to the South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Foundation 2015 TechForce annual fund drive recently. SGTC Acting President Janice Davis and SGTC Foundation Executive Director Su Ann Bird accepted the donation on behalf of the foundation.
“We would like to thank Jem Morris and Georgia Power Company for this donation to the South Georgia Technical College Foundation,” said Davis. “This is a very valuable partnership. Georgia Power’s support of the foundation and our college is very important. We appreciate what they have done and continue to do for the college, the faculty, staff, and most importantly, our students.”
The mission of the SGTC Foundation Board of Trustees is to support the mission of the college; to promote the college within the designated counties in the service area and the state at large; to serve as advisors in the advancement of the college; and to plan and implement resource development activities.
The Foundation accomplishes this mission by improving opportunities for more students to attend college through scholarships and other forms of financial assistance, procuring special equipment, upgrading physical facilities and improving the programs and recognition of the college.
The Foundation’s TechForce annual fund drive is helping provide scholarships for deserving and financially disadvantaged students on both the Americus and Crisp County Center campuses, as well as purchasing tutorial computer software for the college’s LIFE (Learning is For Everyone) and textbooks for students.   Donations will also be utilized to purchase equipment for a new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or Drone maintenance technology program.
Individuals or businesses who would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the South Georgia Technical College Foundation may send donations to P.O. Box 6102, Americus, Georgia 31709.
