AMERICUS — Southland Academy partnered with Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) to bring a professional theater production to the campus. MCT is an international tour group based out of Missoula, Montana, whose mission is to develop life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.
An audition, for the show Aladdin, was held at the beginning of the week. Cast members were made up of our first- through fifth-grade students who worked continually throughout the week and then presented two performances for friends and family.
For Aladdin it wasn’t easy finding a magic lamp, but it was even harder getting a date! In a swirling sandstorm of famous Arabian tales from Ali Baba to Scheherazade, and even Sinbad the Sailor, Aladdin journeyed to find a magic lamp in a Cave of (not-so-great) Wonders. Along his way Aladdin sought answers and advice from wise genies, a powerful sultan, and his own mother to find a way to meet the princess.
However, even with the lamp in hand, Aladdin had to learn that it takes more than a wish to make a good impression.
Full of memorable characters, from lost penguins to talking palm trees, it was an adventure worthy of 1,001 laughs.
