AMERICUS — Despite a threatening sky and a few drops of rain, the Americus Kiwanis Club continued its pre-Halloween tradition Thursday afternoon with its 68th annual Pet Parade downtown. There were over 50 entries and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
Prizes were awarded to the following.
Pet and child category: First place went to Keller Peavy and Eli Cruz along with Sweetie and Gizmo with a Bonanza theme. Second place was won by Ann Lee Teate and Henry Hart V with Angus Earl portraying Pebbles and BamBam and Dino from The Flintstones. Third prize was awarded to Kynslee Collins, Arden and Avery Wheeler and Olivia and Davis Smith, along with Hank, portraying five little monkeys.
Costume only category: First place went to Rylan Jean Martin as Raggedy Anne. Second prize went to Lucy Duke as an Elf on a Shelf, and Cruz Layfield took third place as Thomas the Train.
After the Pet Parade, children enjoyed trick or treating with participating downtown merchants until 6 p.m.
