AMERICUS — A total of $5,000 from Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historic Site was used recently to purchase new trash cans to benefit the city of Americus’ efforts to clean up city sidewalks.
Ten new matching trash cans were added and placed around the Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel. Other trash cans were spaced throughout the downtown.
Total cost of the trash cans was $9,124.50. Americus Main Street paid $4,124.50, and the rest came from the Friends group.
Proceeds from a May 2016 authentic Indian dinner and concert by Nyan Ghosh, one of India’s foremost musicians and one of India’s finest Tabla players, benefited both Americus Main Street and Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historic Site. Tickets were $200 each.
According to Kim Fuller, executive director, “Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historic Site was pleased to partner with the Americus Downtown Development Authority on the Ghosh event. It was also a pleasure to work with Sharad Patel and the Historic Windsor Hotel family.”
