Alonzo Davis

AMERICUS — Funeral services for the late Mr. Alonzo Davis of 107 Palm Court, Americus, who passed on Thursday, July 6, 2006, at the Sumter Regional Hospital will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, from the Big Bethel Baptist Church. The Rev. Jesse Watts will officiate and burial will follow in the Daniel cemetery. The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.

Mr. Alonzo Davis was born in Sumter County on June 25, 1964, to the parentage of the late Mrs. Mary Bernice Hawkins Davis and Mr. David Lee Davis, who survives.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Lucille Dowdell Davis; two sons, Mr. Tavoris Davis and Mr. Keldrain Davis; one daughter, Ms. Kenyate Dowdell; his father, Mr. David Lee (Patricia) Davis; three brothers, Mr. Daryl Davis, Mr. Martin Davis and Mr. Tyrone (Sabrina) Davis; four sisters, Ms. Sheryl Scott, Ms. April Davis, Ms. Rita (Frank) Mann and Ms. DeShavia Simone Davis; his father and mother-in-law, Mr. Matthew Lewis and Ms. Iona Dowdell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Mattie Rebecca Altman Reese

FORT VALLEY — Mrs. Mattie Rebecca Altman Reese, 87, formerly of Americus, died on Friday, July, 7, 2006, in Christ Sanctified Holy Church Home for the Aged in Fort Valley following several months of declining health. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home with interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Dr. Reed Crumbliss will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for an hour preceding the service.

Mrs. Reese was born March 15, 1919, in Johnson County. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She loved to read her Bible and listen to Christian music.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Ann and Jerry Moss of Elwood, Ind. and Jeanette and Ottis White of Carrollton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Dianne J. Belcher of Perry and James Ellis and Debra Belcher of Irwinton and a number of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Her husband, Willie Richard Reese, preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1995.
