Ellaville City manager attends conference
On Jan. 24-27, Ellaville City Manager Deborah P. Smith attended the Georgia Municipal Association’s Mayors Day Conference in Atlanta.
One of the main purposes of Mayors Day was to discuss legislative issues of interest to cities.
With U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss’ decision not to seek reelection in 2014, a number of individuals have already announced their intention to run for the seat. Candidates from both the Republican and Democratic parties shared their views on issues of concern to city officials and stated their vision for governing in Washington, D.C.

Marvin E. ‘Bubba’ Usry was community servant
Our whole community is sad at the death of Marvin Eugene Usry, known by family and close friends as “Bubba.” He loved his family, friends and Schley County.
Bubba was born and raised here in Schley County, attended local schools and later graduated from Georgia Tech as an engineer.
He was a very active person in our community. A member of Concord United Methodist Church in Schley County, he was chairman of the church board and taught Sunday School. He was also president of the Methodist Men’s Club this year. He sang with the Hopewell United Methodist Church Choir once a month at Perfect Care in Americus and held various positions in the Methodist church.
Bubba was a member of the Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191 American Legion here in Ellaville. He was a charter member of the Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society where he served as an officer.
Bubba was a avid golfer and always enjoyed playing in golf tournaments. He served on the Ellaville Boy Scout Troop 24 board and was always there for the boys when they needed him. He served on the first Relay for Life board and remained very dedicated to the annual event.
This community will always remember what a Christian man Eugene (Bubba) Usry was and what he meant to everyone. Please keep his family and friends in your prayers.
