Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 11 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters conducted a service call at a Town Creek Circle residence.
• Firefighters responded to a structure fire at a North Martin Luther King Boulevard residence where they found smoldering materials in the attic.
• Firefighters responded to a park at the end of Park Row Extension where they extinguished a small fire.
• Firefighters responded to Beauchamp Road to provide mutual aid to the Southwest Sumter Volunteer Fire Department in investigating the report of a gas odor.
• Firefighters responded to traffic accidents on West Forsyth Street, and at West College and Jackson streets.
• Firefighters responded to a Lonnie Lane residence where they found an electrical equipment problem.

Americus Police Department

Acccident
• Police investigated a traffic accident at 9:42 a.m. Tuesday at West Forsyth and North Dudley streets.
According to the accident report, Marilyn J. Ponder of Lumpkin, driving a 2003 Nissan Maxima, and Charlie Albright of 704 Oak Ave., Americus, driving a 2000 Oldsmobiile Intrigue, were both traveling west in the inside lane of West Forsyth when a white truck in front of Albright’s vehicle slowed abruptly to turn left onto North Dudley.
Albright stopped to avoid a collision and Ponderm who could not stop, rear-ended Albright’s vehicle.
Albright was taken by first responders to Sumter Regional Hospital East.
Ponder is charged with following too closely.

Incident
• Lost property was reported at Georgia Farm Bureau, 141 Ga. Highway 27 East.

Arrest
• Brittany Royes, no age or address provided, is charged with aggravated assault. She was jailed.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office

Arrests
• Corey Lewis Arren Smith, 31, of 203 Schley St., Plains is charged with two counts of probation violation. He was jailed.
• William James Brown, 44, of 264 U.S. Highway 280 West, Americus is charged with interfering with a 911 call, criminal trespass, simple battery and probation violation. He was jailed.
• Antavius Markell Sims, no age or address provided, was arrested by deputies for the Americus Police Department on a charge of aggravated battery. He was jailed.

Incidents
• Deputies responded to alarms at two businesses and three residences.
• Theft was reported at a Daisy Drive residence.
• Someone was reported standing in the roadway in the area of U.S. Highway 280 East and Tommy Smith Road, Leslie.
• A domestic disturbance was reported at a Forest Park Road residence.
• Deputies assisted a motorist in the area of U.S. Highway 280 West and Shaaban Subdivision.
• Suspicious vehicles were reported near Americus-Sumter County High School North Campus, Industrial Boulevard.
