SGTC Early Childhood Care Committee Meets

AMERICUS

he South Georgia Technical College Early Childhood Care and Education program Advisory Committee held its Winter Quarter advisory meeting in the Odom Center Conference room recently.

The South Georgia Technical College instructors discussed program changes and latest developments in the program with the advisory committee members.

Advisory members represent local business and industry that have a direct interest in the program they are involved with. Members volunteer their time to help SGTC stay abreast of constant changes in the workplace.

Members present at the advisory meeting were: Verneda Johnson, Pre-K Director of Macon County Elementary School; Eloise Tyson of EduCare in Americus; Tommie Thompson, Childcare Resource and Referral Agency; Latonia Riggins, Webster County Elementary School in Preston; and South Georgia Tech GOAL Winner Tonya Farrow, an Early Childhood Care and Education student from the Crisp County Center campus of South Georgia Tech.

Jaye Cripe is the instructor for this program on the Americus campus and Lisa Penton is the Early Childhood Care and Education Instructor on the Crisp County Center campus. In addition, David Kuipers, Dean of Instruction, and Teresa O’Bryant, Instructional Services assistant, were also present at the meeting.

The general purpose of the advisory committees at SGTC is to advise and assist program personnel and the college in training and preparing students to better serve the needs of business and industry in SGTC’s six-county service area, as well as statewide. The committee serves as a link between the workplace and the college.

South Georgia Tech is currently registering students for Spring Quarter. Classes begin Friday, April 3rd, 2009. For more information or to apply, contact the admissions office at 229.931-2394 in Americus or 229.271.4040 in Cordele or visit the website at www.southgatech.edu.
