Singers Spring Tour this weekend

— On the heels of a very successful trip to New York City where judges gave high scores and praised the Singers “wonderful energy” and “variety of music,” the group will embark on a three show tour this weekend with performances in Plains, Leslie and Americus.
Starting off in Plains, the Singers will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Jimmy Carter Auditorium at Plains High School, part of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site. Then at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the Singers will perform at the Leslie Civic Center. Finally, the Singers will return to Americus for a Sunday matinee performance at 3 p.m. in Georgia Southwestern State University’s Convocation Hall.
“I am so excited to be sharing this show with the communities of Leslie, Plains and Americus,” Singers Director Debbie McIlrath said. “This is an amazingly talented group of young men and women who have worked very hard to get to this point. When you pair that talent with determination and hard work, you get an amazing show.”
The Spring Show will pay tribute to our troops who are serving both here and abroad with the Singers ‘very own USO Show, the show choir competition set that the Singers took with them to New York. In addition, the Singers will sing their mixed choir set, a gospel choir set and some other musical presentations and appearances. With music varying from The Andrew’s Sisters’ “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” to a piece by a former “American Idol” contestant, to the rousing gospel piece “Praise His Holy Name,” there is sure to be something on the program for everyone to enjoy.
Tickets can be purchased at the door at all three events. Ticket price is $7.
“I sure hope that everyone makes an attempt to come out for one of these shows,” McIlrath said. “This is a prime example of some ‘home grown’ talent right here in our backyard and we should do everything within our power to support and further it.”
