The following items were discussed at the Sumter County Commission’s committee meetings Tuesday. Commissioners Al Hurley and Brent Williams are on the personnel/finance committee and Andrea F. Brooks and Randy Howard are on the public services committee.
• The Sumter County Parks & Recreation Department says its office needs to replace its current copier. The item on Tuesday’s agenda read, “request to replace Savin 2055 copier with a Savin 8045 espf equipped with duplex, ARDF, sort/staple finisher and console in the amount of $175 for 60 months or keep the existing lease an installing a print control unit at a cost of $682.”
• The Americus-Sumter Tourism Council asked the Commissioners to appoint a person to serve on the committee that will select famous and important Sumter Countians that will be painted on a mural on a City building. The Commission was leaning Tuesday toward a historian.
• The Tax Assessor’s Office requested refunds be issued to the following property owners due to tax billed on incorrect information: Kelly Newcomb — parcel number 2812-100-2: refund recommended for tax on mobile home for tax digest years 2006 and 2007 in the amount of $607 for county, state and school, and Willie Maxwell — parcel number 2704B-121-17: refund recommended for incorrect square footage on house. Refund for 2005, 2006 and 2007 in the amount of $335 for county, state and school.
The personnel/finance committee spoke affirmatively of the issuance of these refunds, but no official action can be taken until the regular meeting July 15.
The next Commissioners’ meeting will be their agenda-setting meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday. Both the preceding and proceeding issues will be discussed.
• Solid Waste Management Authority of Crisp County — effective July 1, the oil/energy adjustment will increase to 95 cents household and 23 cents per commercial cubic yard.
• SPLOST Project #23: Sumter County Courthouse — request from Rosser International for authorization to approve the exterior wall bid package #9.2 to be awarded to Alexander Construction with a total cost of $404,975.
• SPLOST Project #101: DeSoto Renovation/City Hall; SPLOST Project #102 Leslie Renovation/City Hall/Police Station; SPLOST Project #106: Andersonville Building Renovation/Improvements — request from Rosser International to select and begin negotiations with Lose & Associates as the architect for these projects.
