It only took a jury about a couple of hours Friday evening to find Patricia Ann Brown, 37, guilty of the January 2006 robbery and felony murder of Eugene B. Clark, 47.

Superior Court Judge Rucker Smith decided to wait until 10 a.m. Thursday at the Law Enforcement Center to sentence Brown because of the emotional display of the victim’s family and friends and Brown’s family and friends Friday, after the verdict was read, according to a representative from the District Attorney’s Office.

District Attorney Cecilia Cooper said life in prison is the mandatory sentence for felony murder. Fred Hoston has already been sentenced to 25 years in prison for beating Clark to death and then taking his wallet.

Hoston, 28, and in shackles, testified Wednesday that Brown falsely accused Clark of raping her so Hoston would attack Clark and then Brown could take Clark’s wallet.

Several witnesses testified Clark was flashing a lot of money and buying people drinks at Toro’s Lounge on Bay Street the night he was killed and Brown was also there that particular night.

Hoston testified that Brown walked to his house about 3 a.m. after Toro’s closed and told him that Clark had “tried her.” The two finally caught up with Clark on North Jackson Street near the senior citizens’ center and Hoston attacked him.

Hoston and Brown accused each other, during initial interrogations, of taking Clark’s wallet out of his pocket as he laid on the ground after the beating. One of them took the money out the wallet and threw it in Town Creek.

They went on a mini spending spree the day after the robbery and murder, according to witnesses that drove the couple around Americus.
