On Saturday, Steve Hale, a 56-year-old, non-cyclist, “fat boy” of Springfield, Ky., will be leaving from 112 Boston Court, Louisville, Ky. (the first Fuller Center neighborhood rehab project) on a 576-mile bicycle trip to Americus, the home office of the Fuller Center for Housing. The purpose of the trip is to raise awareness and money for the Fuller Center for Housing as well as to start new chapters in each city he visits.
The Fuller Center for Housing was formed in 2005, by Millard Fuller and his wife Linda, the founders of Habitat for Humanity. Fuller is known around the world for his lifelong work of providing affordable homes for low and very-low income people. Under his leadership, Habitat for Humanity built 200,000 homes for over a million people. The Fuller Center for Housing now has chapters in over 20 states and 10 countries. The Fuller Center for Housing builds homes with volunteers at no profit and no interest. Homeowners and their families will pay a zero-interest mortgage and contribute sweat equity hours toward the help of building the homes.
On the journey, Steve Hale will be stopping in the towns along the route sharing information about the Fuller Center for Housing. He plans to reach Americus on Aug. 2. Please show your support for Hale and the Fuller Center for Housing as he travels through your community.
