As comments about the two-year old Dress Code for Sumter County Schools lessen, administrators and teachers are quick to address and resolve lingering problems.

After seeking copies of the school board-adopted copies of the 2008-2009, many questions concerning the code receive resolution. As the cooler weather arrives, the need for in-school jackets arises.

“It is vital that we secure jackets for travel to and in-school use by our younger students. These children need our help,” said Valerie Duff, principal of Sumter County Fine Arts Academy. Primary and elementary schools have organized an in-school clothes closet to that provide accepted cover for students who arrive out of code for their school day. Additionally, garments are on hand for student accidents and damage to clothes worn from home. School administrators ask that Sumter County churches, civic clubs and residents consider providing new, or usable, rarely worn, or outgrown jackets, in dress code colors of navy blue, black, brown, khaki or white, to students unable to provide their own outer clothing. Suggested sizes range from children’s 5-12.

Garments may be delivered to Cherokee Elementary, Sumter Primary, Sarah Cobb Elementary or Sumter County Elementary Schools, during the school day. If additional information or inquiry about monetary donations is needed, please call the appropriate schools.
