Americus-Sumter County Payroll Development Authority (PDA) Executive Director David Garriga announced at the Authority’s monthly meeting Tuesday that another company could announce location to Sumter County within the next two to three weeks.

Garriga would not give many details about the company, but this company would provide at least 100 jobs.

“We were also recommended by Georgia Power to a very large food processing company,” Garriga added, in his report of activities to the PDA.

“We have a lot of activity, inside and out,” Garriga said. He praised PDA counsel Mike Fennessy for his help in legal matters of the Authority.

The only item approved by the PDA Tuesday was a request to change loan terms for the food processing company that’s about to locate in Sumter County.

The terms of the original loan from the PDA to the company was $400,000, with payments over several years.

Garriga explained that the building is not ready, but the equipment is “sitting there,” and the new loan terms call for two payments of $200,000 in two increments. This item was approved by the PDA.

In other development matters, Garriga said that Pharma Centra will hold a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Oct. 24. The facility is located at 1607 N. Martin Luther King Blvd.

Garriga also said the PDA has submitted an application to the University System of Georgia Board of Regents (BOR) to locate a regional services office in Americus, a university town. He also said a building consisting of 30,000 sq. ft. was purchased for that specific use.

Garriga said the Legislative Fish Fry will be held Oct. 16 at the former Lockheed Martin facility, and the program will consist of a presentation of Sumter County to industries.
