Tribute planned for Veterans

— Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park will host its annual Tribute to Veterans program at 1 p.m. Nov. 7. The public is invited to honor those who served their country. Other activities include World War II living history throughout the day and the Sixth Annual Veterans Fly-In. A Black Hawk helicopter will be on static display, provided by the Georgia Army National Guard. This program is sponsored in part by the Friends of Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park.
Guest speaker for the event will be Buddy Harden, state representative of District 147. Music will be provided by the Mercer University Pipes and Drums. The Lee County High School Chorus will sing the National Anthem. A patriotic flag presentation will be provided by the second-grade girls of the Cherokee Flag Corps. The Rev. Lawton Sammons of Lakeview Baptist Church, Cobb, will deliver the invocation and benediction.
World War II living history will be demonstrated by Kelly’s Zeroes, who will provide programs Saturday and Sunday. At least three tactical demonstrations will be conducted, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. Throughout both days, they will conduct blanks firings of World War II rifles and machine guns and oversee displays on the European Theater. Pacific History will be provided by Persian Gulf Command, World War II, who be interpreting the history of the Middle East during that period, and the old Grey Bonnets, 121st Battalion, 8th Division of Albany.
The Sixth Annual Veterans Day Fly-In, sponsored by the Flint Flyers will be held Saturday at the flying field. The public is invited to come watch the radio-controlled model airplanes. A quiet time will be in effect at 1 p.m. for the veterans’ ceremony. For information, call Jerry Johnson at 229-276-0087.
