South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) early childhood care and education program recently held an advisory meeting on SGTC’s Americus campus in the Odom Center conference room.

Members of the advisory committee met with early childhood care and education instructor Jaye Cripe and assistant Karen Smith from the Americus campus and Lisa Penton of the Cordele campus. Dean for Academic Affairs David Kuipers also attended the meeting. The members reviewed all aspects of the program to keep the program abreast of trends and changes in the early childhood care and education industry.

The purpose of the advisory committee meetings is to provide expert support for the program the committee represents. The meetings promote interaction between the program and business and industries served by the program. The faculty uses the expertise of the advisory committee to improve content and operation of the program.

As committee members, individuals may serve as guest speakers in class, help arrange field trips for the program, assist with recruitment, provide on-the-job training for students, provide assistance with job placement for the students, as well as provide other services as the committee sees fit.

Members of the committee present at the advisory meeting were Monica Jennings of Child Care Resource and Referral in Americus, Carol Harris of O’Neal Elementary in Cordele and Wanda Jackson of Cherokee Elementary School in Americus.

For more information call Jaye Cripe in Americus at 931-2743 or in Cordele call Lisa Penton at 229-271-4062.
