The Sumter County Board of Education (BOE) will meet Monday at 6 p.m. for its work session and Thursday at 7 p.m. for its regular meeting. The meetings will be held at the Board Room of the central office, located at 100 Learning Lane, are open to the public.
A review team from The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) will be present at Monday’s work session. The team will be in Americus through Wednesday as part of an investigation into complaints and allegations against the BOE, criticizing its leadership capabilities.
SACS CASI investigation will be conducted at no cost to the school system; however, as stated in an official letter notifying the Board of the inspection “the institution is expected to accommodate and support all aspects of the special review. Open lines of communication will be expected as well as the submission of requested documents and assistance in coordinating investigation efforts such as meetings, interviews and observations. Recommendations will be made in accordance with SACS standards and the letter states that if the review team finds it necessary, “immediate and decisive corrective action” could be required.”
