The public is invited to the annual Spring Revival services at 7 p.m. April 27-29. The theme of the Revival is “Asking, Seeking and Knocking.” Special guest Tuesday is Pastor Calvin Rollins and the Big Bethel Baptist Church; on Wednesday, Pastor Stephen Hill and Grace Community Church and on Thursday, Pastor Sherryl Sneed and Peters Chapel A.M.E. From 11 a.m.-3 p.m. May 1, everyone’s invited to a “Karnival on the Corner” family fun day for all ages on the corner of North Lee and J.R. Campbell streets.
Sumter Area Ministerial Association
The 59th annual National Day of Prayer is observed at noon May 6 at the Russell Thomas Jr. Public Safety Building, 119 S. Lee St. The theme is “For Such a Time as This” and prayers will be offered for the nation’s government, military, media, businesses, educational system, churches and families.
Antioch Baptist Church
The Men’s and Women’s Day program begins at 10 a.m. Sunday with Sunday School and worship service at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. The speaker is Elder Charlotte Wright Dobbs from Cordele. The colors are purple, white and black.
County Line Methodist Church
A gospel sing starts at 7 p.m. Saturday featuring the Dixie Rhythm Boys. Everyone is invited.
Lebanon Baptist Church
The 139th Church anniversary is observed, beginning with Sunday School at 10 a.m. Sunday. Regular services begin at 11 a.m., the Rev. Hosie Waters presiding. The church family honors the seventh oldest living member, Brother Bowman Colwell. All area churches are invited.
Mount Zion Webster Missionary Baptist Church
The 142nd anniversary services of the church and the first anniversary of Pastor Rev. Alfred Starling are observed Sunday with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and the church anniversary service at noon. The Pastor’s anniversary service begins at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Calvin Rollins and guest churches, Big Bethel Baptist Church, Antioch, Bethlehem, Bethel Baptist, Corinth Holy Bible, Jehovah, Lower Sardis, New St. Mark, Mount Temple, Shiloh and St. Luke. Everyone is welcome.
New Hope AME Church
The Rev. E.X. King invites everyone to join them at 7:30 p.m. May 11-13 for the annual Youth Revival. The Rev. Roderick Haugabook brings the message Tuesday; the Rev. Ronald Wilson on Wednesday and Minister Ricky Cladd on Thursday. Youth Day climaxes at 11 a.m. May 16 with WALB meteorologist Yolonda Amadeo as guest speaker.
Jerusalem Grove Baptist
Youth month closes out with Youth Guest Day at 11 a.m. Sunday during regular service with Sister Tadeshia Myrick of Americus-Sumter County High School as speaker for the youth. The Rev. Charles Luke of Albany delivers the message. All youth are invited to wear school colors.
Green Grove Baptist Church
Men’s and Women’s Day is celebrated at 11 a.m. May 2. Guest speaker is Deacon Eric Bryant of Americus and Stephanie Lewis of Albany. The public is invited.

‘Blind Side,’ ‘Walking Dead’ actor coming to Rylander Theatre stage
IronE Singleton, an Atlanta-born actor, will be presenting his one-man stage production at 8 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Rylander Theatre, downtown. Singleton is best known for his roles in “The Walking Dead” television series and the Oscar Award-nominated film “The Blind Side.”

GSW chemistry professor named 2013-2014 Featured Scholar
Nedialka Iordanova, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry, was announced as Georgia Southwestern State University’s 2013-14 Featured Scholar today by President Kendall A. Blanchard, Ph.D.
The public is invited to join the GSW community at a reception honoring Iordanova at 4 p.m. Monday in the Rotunda of the Wheatley Administration Building.
