SGTC Pell grant checks delayed

AMERICUS — The Times-Recorder was contacted Friday in reference to a South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) student not receiving his Pell grant check.

After checking with SGTC, the institution issued the following statement.

“South Georgia Technical College is pleased to be able to distribute approximately $1.7 million worth of Pell Grant funds to eligible students each quarter. These funds are federal grant funds that are distributed to students based on federal financial guidelines. South Georgia Technical College has already processed one Pell check distribution for summer quarter and placed the second batch in the mail (Friday.) The federally required process involves balancing and verification by multiple departments. Once that process has been completed, the funds are requested for distribution. SGTC received the additional Pell funds from the federal government Thursday night and the checks were released on Friday.”
