Fourth annual Shamrock Jog and Jam March 15

AMERICUS — The fourth annual Shamrock Jog & Jam, to benefit the Scott Law Foundation, is Saturday, March 15. Law, a local firefighter, died in January 2007, after battling a malignant brain tumor. The Americus community rallied around Law in his time of need and helped him financially as he fought cancer.

Scott Law’s brother, Tracy Law, and Alex Saratsiotis, owners of Accelerated Physical Therapy in Americus, started the Scott Law Foundation in honor of Scott, and to help others in this area who are dealing with life threatening illnesses. The foundation’s mission is to “provide direct financial assistance to Sumter and surrounding county residents suffering from cancer or other medical ailments ... (and) is committed to fulfilling the special financial needs of these patients and their families in order to make the fight for survival an easier one.”

Event organizers said that the Jog & Jam has been a success each year and last year had over 350 racers. Proceeds from the annual event have provided help to 45 families and donations of $21,000 to residents of Sumter and surrounding counties suffering from life threatening illnesses.

Law says those experiencing threatening illness and are experiencing financial difficulty can request funds through the Scott Law Foundation. The Foundation board is made up of local residents and business owners who help manage and distribute the funds.

Again, this year’s event features a 1-mile fun run/walk and a 5K race that will take runners through downtown Americus. Following the race, live music, fun activities and refreshments will be at Lenny’s Market on Hampton Street, downtown.

There are several sponsorship opportunities for the event.

Supporters of the Scott Law Foundation ($100 donation) will have their name listed on the Wall of Thanks on the day of the event and a business banner hung at the event if provided by the business.

Friends of the Scott Law Foundation ($500 donation) will have their name listed on the Wall of Thanks on the day of the event, a business banner hung at the event if provided by the business and have their name on the event t-shirt.
