Natives come from Sumter County

AMERICUS — Citizens of Americus & Sumter County and surrounding areas will have a chance to attend two great events this weekend, both courtesy of native Sumter Countians who want to do something for their community.

Sumter County native Erasmus Harvey, owner of Elite Performance Sports, will return to Americus for the SW Georgia Summer Football Showcase this Saturday, June 27th at 9 am. The event will take place at Finklea-Robinson Field at Alton Shell Stadium. A number of recruiters and former players, including former Americus star and NFL player Otis Leverette, will be on hand to see high school players showcase their skills for the opportunity to play at the next level. All high school football players are invited, and the cost is only $25! Please call (404) 358-0659 for more information, or go to www.eliteperformersports.ning.com.

If sports isn't your fancy, then you head to the historic Rylander Theater to see Americus native Malika Jones reprise her role as Ms. Claudeen Peabody, an old-school teacher trying to make a difference in the lives of today's youth. Ms. Peabody in the Classroom is a comedic drama that the whole family will enjoy, and you are invited to attend! Show times are 3 pm and 7 pm, and tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for ages 17 and under. To purchase tickets, go to www.rylander.org or visit the Rylander Box Office on Lamar Street. You can also call (229) 931-0001.

Please support these native Sumter Countians in their quest to make a difference in the lives of our youth!
