GBI believes dual deaths to be murder-suicide

AMERICUS — The local GBI Office suspects a murder-suicide in a dual death investigation at a Thrasher Road residence.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was called around 10 p.m. Monday to conduct a welfare check at 985 Thrasher Road, a residence in rural western Sumter County. They found two dead people there.

The Region 3 Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in for assistance on the case.

Danny Jackson, special agent in charge, told the Times-Recorder on Tuesday that the dead were identified as husband and wife, Edward Pastizzo Sr., 68, and Ann Pastizzo, 66.

Jackson said the bodies had been sent to the State Crime Lab for autopsy, but “from all indications, it was a murder-suicide.”

He said from their investigation, it appears the husband shot and killed his wife with a handgun and then killed himself.

Jackson said the exact cause of the deaths will be revealed when the autopsies are completed.
