Treadaway retires from SGTC

AMERICUS — South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) Heavy Equipment Dealers Service Technology (HEDST) instructor Mike Treadaway has retired from SGTC after eleven years of service to the college. SGTC faculty and staff celebrated his retirement with a reception hosted by the South Georgia Tech retirement club in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus campus recently.

Mike Treadaway was hired as the South Georgia Technical College HEDST instructor in 2001. He has helped to build the Caterpillar Think Big program at South Georgia Tech into one of the top programs in the world. “Mike and his wife, Jean, have practically adopted most of the young men and ladies who graduate from this program,” joked SGTC President Sparky Reeves at the reception for Treadaway’s retirement.

Treadaway brought nearly thirty years of work experience with him to South Georgia Tech when he was hired in 2001. He served as the Service and Parts Manager for Treadaway Motors from 1972 until 1978. From there, he went on to work as a Contractor at Chrysler Motors/Champion Trans Vans in Ellaville before returning to Treadaway Motors after a year. In 1985, he took a position as Technical Training Specialist for Chrysler Motors in Atlanta. He returned to Americus in 1995 to become self-employed until 2001, when he took the HEDST instructor position at SGTC.

Treadaway earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgia Southwestern State University in 1973. He was also a Staff Motor Sergeant in the United States Army National Guard. He received honorable discharge in 1978.

Treadaway has a U.S. Coast Guard Captain and Master Mate license and is also a certified Scuba diver.

He has two daughters, Tasha and Tanya. His third daughter, Tammi, passed away several years ago. He has four grandchildren—T.J., Olivia, Lani, and Paiton.

Following his retirement, Treadaway and his wife Jean plan to relocate to their Florida home.
