Christine Coker Griggs

Pinehurst — Christine Coker Griggs, age 86, of Pinehurst, died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Early Edgar Coker and Emily Kitchens Coker. She was a faithful member of Pinehurst United Methodist Church for many years. Mrs. Griggs was a homemaker and worked as the bookkeeper for her family’s business, Planters Warehouse/Griggs Gin Co.

Survivors include daughters Gloria Griggs Conner of Unadilla and Pamela Griggs Jenkins (C.M.) of Douglas; sons Billy Griggs (Jane) of Unadilla and George Griggs (Laura) of Pinehurst; sister-in-law Mary Ellen Coker of Campbellsville, Ky.; brother-in-law Calfrey Clark of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren Kim C. Barron (Jeff), Tripp Conner (Kimberly), Michael C. Conner, Angie Griggs, Christy Griggs Deal, Keri Griggs Dolan (Brian), Clegg Griggs (Aimee), Jacob Griggs (Becky), Capt. Nathaniel Griggs, USMC, Joanna Jenkins and Travis Jenkins; 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Griggs Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2010, in Pinehurst United Methodist Church with interment in Walnut Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
