Local student recognized nationally

AMERICUS — A local fifth-grader has been notified that she’s been recognized on a national level for achievement.

Nancia Hall, daughter of Shelby and Gwen Hall of Americus, is in Laurene Guthas’ fifth-grade class at Sumter County Elementary School.

She has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy (USAA) as a student of excellence in physical education and as an Honor Roll student. She is an All-American Scholar. She was nominated for the physical education honor by Coach Carol Briley. Her name will appear in the USAA’s Official Yearbook which is published nationally.

Receiving this national recognition means the student qualifies to apply for one of 400 scholarship cash grants awarded each year by the nonprofit USAA Scholarship Foundation.

Nancia is the granddaughter of John Hall and the late Nancy Hall, the late Alphonso Westbrook and Berdia Winn, all of Americus.
