Westward ho!

ELLAVILLE — Fourth-grade students at Schley County Elementary School constructed covered wagons while learning about westward expansion in their social studies class. In addition to creating a model of a covered wagon, students wrote friendly letters describing their experience while traveling westward along the Oregon Trail. In their letters students explained what the new frontier had to offer and why they had decided to move westward. Students also gave a detailed list of important materials they packed for their long journey, and they described challenges and obstacles settlers faced along the way.
