AMERICUS — The Sumter County Fire and Rescue Auxiliary recently made a donation to Pink Pals. Auxiliary members shown are Peggy Lynn Toms, Patty Ekaitis, Heather Harmon, David Melton, Lynda Melton, Jerry Harmon, John Carroll and John Harty. Members not shown but in attendants for the donation were Chris Toms, Savannah Melton, Chief John Ekaitis, Jennie Avonzo, Jeremy Law and Wendy Burks. Pink Pals members in attendence were Linda Brewer (second from left, front row), Shelley Sullivan (fourth from left, back row), Sue Bradley (far left, front row), Beth Nesmith (far right, front row) and Sharon Tarver (second from right, front row). Pink Pals is a group of breast cancer survivors who mentor and encourage breast cancer survivors and help them as they go through treatment. Pink Pals give breast cancer patients a basket filled with pink items and a book written by Dr. Susan Love.

Sumter Elementary fifth-graders record change through experiments
Sumter County Elementary School students from Maggie Fletcher’s homeroom measured, mixed and marveled at the change in color when two substances were combined to make a solution during their science lab investigation.
