BOE’s actions in violation of rules
The actions by the majority of the Sumter County BOE last night (May 30) regarding the extension of the current superintendent's contract is a violation of Robert's Rules of Order. This is an issue that should be discussed at a work session with all members present. The current superintendent was hired without all BOE members present which is unfortunant since this is the most important action the a school board will undertake. Last night was proof that there was no discussion prior to this coming up as well as being added to the agenda without full knowledge of what this was about. So much for transparency between the BOE and the public. I have no issue with the contract extension but it must come after an evaluation of the superintendent. This is business 101! No current business in society will offer a contract extension before an complete evaluation is done.
As someone has previously stated ... it will be an interesting 6 months.
Americus still has good people
Last Saturday (May 30) after shopping at Walmart, I inadvertantly left my purse on the shopping cart when I left. When I realized this, it left me in a panic but the manager, staff that I dealt with at Walmart and the Verizon staff that tracked my phone for me could not have been more helpful. As it turned out, a lady and her daughter found the purse and located me to return it.
We read daily of so many bad things happening that I just wanted our Americus citizens to know that good things happen here too.
In all my confusion, I neglected to get the name of the lady and her daughter who found the purse but I hope they read this and know that their good deed will be passed on at every opportunity I have.
