AMERICUS — Meaningful

immigration reform needed

When discussing the presence of undocumented non-citizens in our country, we often overlook provisions covering the situation found in our Bibles. As an example, Leviticus 19: 33-34 provides "When an alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”

The current administration under President Obama has already deported more non-citizens than the 3 previous administrations under Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2, combined. Immigration reform is once again in the top 10 topics to be taken up by the current Congress. Those of us who are Believers in the Book need to back up our professed beliefs with actions. Repealing Georgia's get tough on undocumented non-citizens law would be a good start. It would also help all holders of licenses for various professions from the State renew their licenses more quickly and simply. Immigration reform needs to happen in Atlanta as much as it needs to happen in DC.
