Panther soccer improves to 1-2

The Americus-Sumter Panther soccer team kicked off the 2015 season on Feb. 10, facing Worth County. The boys played an exciting match against the Rams, falling 2-3 in double-overtime. On the heels of this defeat, the Panthers hit the pitch again on Feb. 13 to face the Bainbridge Bearcats. Missing two starters who had not been cleared to play after suffering injuries in the Feb. 10 game, the Panthers had a tough time on the field, suffering a 0-4 loss to the Bearcats.

Lady Raiders proceed to region tourney

The Southland Academy Lady Raiders have captured a third-place spot in the GISA region 3AAA tournament. By defeating the Valwood Lady Valiants 61-50 on Feb. 13 for their last game of the regular season and toppling the same opponents 51-40 on Feb. 16 in a play-in game, the Lady Raiders earned a spot in the tournament, to be held in Darton on Feb. 20. The Lady Raiders will face the region’s number one seed, Westwood Academy out of Camilla.

AMERICUS - Following a stunning victory over the Monroe Lady Tornadoes for the region 1-AAAA championship. The Americus-Sumter Lady Panthers took the court in Americus on Feb. 17 to face the West Laurens Lady Raiders in the first round of the class AAAA state tournament. The Lady Panthers won a 59-51 victory in the match, progressing them to the second round of the tourney. The Sweet 16 round of the playoffs will be held in Americus on Feb. 20, where the Lady Panthers will battle the Pickens County Lady Dragons for a spot in the Elite Eight.

Georgia Tech suspends Chris Bolden for 6 games

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech guard Chris Bolden has been suspended for the remainder of the regular season and one game in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

The suspension was announced on Thursday by coach Brian Gregory. The school said Bolden violated the athletic association's student-athlete conduct policy but provided no details of the violation.

Bolden, a junior who averages 6.9 points per game, also was held out of the Yellow Jackets' win over Clemson on Monday night. Including the Clemson game, the suspension covers six games.

Bolden has started in 11 of Georgia Tech's 26 games. The Yellow Jackets play at North Carolina on Saturday.

The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets captured their third straight victory as they rolled to a 90–39 win over the Summer Hill Lady Blue Devils in a make-up non-conference game. ALBANY - The Americus-Sumter Panther basketball team dropped a 40-55 decision to the Albany High Indians on Feb. 13 in the final round of the region 1-AAAA tournament in Albany. The defeat drops the Panthers’ overall record to 24-5 and league record to 14-5. The loss also gives the Panthers a second-place finish in their region.
