MANCHESTER — With the playoffs out of the way, Marion County used two freshmen pitchers in Thursday’s season finale.
Lucas Singleton started the game hitting three batters in the first inning before settling down and pitching four innings. Nick Hunter pitched the final two as they combined to allow five runs on five hits in a 5-2 loss. They were brought up from the JV on Wednesday since they were going to play three days in a row.
The Eagles finished the season 13-13; they fell out of playoff contention on Wednesday with a 4-2 loss at home to Manchester.
Wes Hicks had a double, and Harley Peck drove in the team’s two runs on a triple in the sixth. Seventeen Eagles played in the game.
Eagles coach Derek Goodroe said his six seniors did a good job of leading the team this year and the future is bright.
“Our goal was to make the playoffs, but we fell short of that,” he said. “Considering the year we had last year (7-19), this was a turnaround for us. There’s a bright future ahead, and going down to single-A will help, too.”
