AMERICUS — South Georgia Tech Jets coach Steven Wright announced the signing of Antonio Bell, a senior guard from Jonesboro HIgh.

Bell, a 5-foot-10 guard, was a three-year starter for the Cardinals and averaged 16 points and 9 assists a game. He was a First Team All-Area and an All-State honorable mention selection following his junior and senior seasons. He was also a Georgia Athletic Coaches Association First Team pick this season.

“We are very excited to have signed such a proven winner,” said Wright. “He has a tremendous love for the game and competes every single possession. He is able to find people in the open floor and create shots for other as well as himself. “He will certainly give us a toughness mentality from the point guard spot on offense and defense and will lead the troops. I certainly think that coach (Dan) Maelhman has gotten him ready to be able to produce at this level.”

Bell finished his career with 1,078 points and 723 assists. Jonesboro won 24 games and reached the Elite Eight in Class AAAA each of the past two seasons.

He is the fourth player the Jets have signed in this year’s recruiting class. The Jets are replacing at least eight players from last year’s team that went 20-12 and was runner-up in the GJCAA.
