Schley County starts softball season 3-2

COLUMBUS — Schley County started its softball season 3-2 in finishing second in the gold division of the Jordan Tournament this weekend.
The Lady Wildcats opened with back-to-back shutouts, a 12-0 win against Marion County and then 1-0 versus Columbus.
Brittany Byrd and Ansley Phillips both had two hits, a double and three RBI in the opening game win. Stephanie Veatch delivered the game-winning RBI against Columbus in the fourth inning for the team’s lone hit of the game.
Caitlyn Bass pitched a complete game allowing three hits while striking out eight.
Schley County suffered consecutive losses to Worth County and Hardaway to start Saturday’s play.
Worth scored four runs in the first and held on for a 5-3 win. Ansley Phillips led Schley with three hits while Brittany Byrd had two, including a double.
Ashley Smith and Bree Franks each had two hits against Hardaway, but the Lady Wildcats lost 6-2.
In the final game, Schley used a four-run third inning and held off a late rally from Shaw to win 4-3. Phillips, Veatch and Jessie Eason all had two hits.
