Marion County beats Macon County in a blowout

MONTEZUMA — The Marion County Eagles  travelled to Macon County on Tuesday to take on the Bulldogs at their home field in Montezuma. The Eagles went in with the hope of beating their region 4-A rivals, and they succeeded in a major way.

Dylan McClellan started the game for the Eagles and went six strong innings in the mercy-rule shortened game. McClellan struck out an amazing 12 Macon County batters, while only giving up five hits.

Dustin Eckert was the hero of the day at the plate, going five-for-five with three doubles during his outstanding performance.

McClellan also helped himself a lot at the plate, going three-for-four with two doubles to cap off an amazing game for the senior.

Brandon Dumas, Jake McTaggart, Dillon Lane, C.J. Dudley and Dustin Pickren all added two hits in the game, and Dylan Price added a hit to round out the Marion County Scoring.

When all was said and done, the Eagles headed back to Buena Vista with a big 16-5 region win over their nearby foe.

The Eagles out-hit the Bulldogs 19-5, and each team had two errors in the game.

The Eagles will return home at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 6 to take on St. Anne Pacelli out of Columbus.

    The Americus Travelers 14U Baseball Club, after a stellar season on the baseball diamond, again peaked at the right time; finishing as the number three team at the USSSA Global Sports Baseball World Series in Orange Beach, Ala. last week. Coach Tim Estes’ squad entered the event with a record of 23–9 -1 on the season, and there were 35 teams from eight states competing for the title of World Series Champion.

    The Avenue of Flags flies in Andersonville National Historic Site five times per year during days of special significance. Following the end of the Independence Day holiday, the Southland Academy football team took a break from their summer workouts to help take down the 200+ flags on Monday, July 7.

    South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets head basketball coach James Frey has been named Athletic Director for the college effective July 1, 2014, announced South Georgia Technical College President Sparky Reeves. Frey will continue to serve as the Lady Jets head basketball coach, as well as work as a Recreation and Leisure Management instructor. Reeves also announced that Kezia Conyers and Chris Ballauer have been hired as full-time instructors and assistant basketball coaches for the Lady Jets and Jets.
