Americus Kiwanis Club now accepting registration for 5K ‘Kold Run and Walk’

AMERICUS — The Americus Kiwanis Club is currently holding registration and preparing for their 5K ‘Kold Run and Walk’ which will take place on Saturday, January 26. The ‘Kold Run’ will be a 3.1 mile run that begins at Lenny’s Market, located at 110 North Hampton Street in Americus.

The goal of the Kiwanis Club is to change the world one child and one community at the time. The Americus Kiwanis Club uses such the ‘Kold Run’ to raise funds for various community service projects, many of which are focused on the children of our community. Not only can runners come out and  take part in a fun and competitive event, but they also rest assured that they have helped a very worth cause with their entry into the race.

Participants the want to compete in the ‘Kold Run and Walk’ may contact Charlene Pennymon at 229-928-6487, or Stephen Pinnell at 229-924-2783 to register for the event. The registration fee for the run is $25, and participants will receive a Kool Kiwanis Gemline Surge Sport Clinch Pac Bag. The top three male and female finishers in each of the 15 age groups will also receive awards, and there will be various fantastic door prizes.

Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in a great event while supporting a great cause. The race is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, so be sure to register and be at Lenny’s Market before 6.

    The Americus Travelers 14U Baseball Club, after a stellar season on the baseball diamond, again peaked at the right time; finishing as the number three team at the USSSA Global Sports Baseball World Series in Orange Beach, Ala. last week. Coach Tim Estes’ squad entered the event with a record of 23–9 -1 on the season, and there were 35 teams from eight states competing for the title of World Series Champion.

    The Avenue of Flags flies in Andersonville National Historic Site five times per year during days of special significance. Following the end of the Independence Day holiday, the Southland Academy football team took a break from their summer workouts to help take down the 200+ flags on Monday, July 7.

    South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets head basketball coach James Frey has been named Athletic Director for the college effective July 1, 2014, announced South Georgia Technical College President Sparky Reeves. Frey will continue to serve as the Lady Jets head basketball coach, as well as work as a Recreation and Leisure Management instructor. Reeves also announced that Kezia Conyers and Chris Ballauer have been hired as full-time instructors and assistant basketball coaches for the Lady Jets and Jets.
