Miller powers Lady 'Canes to sweep of Brewton Parker

AMERICUS — A two-run blast from  Jordan Miller in the bottom of the third inning was all the Lady Hurricanes need to prevail over Brewton-Parker in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

GSW starting pitcher Allison Pastor (5-2) threw a complete game shutout for the Blue & Gold as the junior accounted for six stikeouts on the game.

Miller paced GSW (8-5) with three hits and two RBI's on the contest.

In the second game, Miller came up big once again for Southwestern. The junior third baseman paced the Lady Hurricanes with two hits and four RBI's on the game.

GSW (9-5) scored five runs over the final two innings to break a 2-2 stalemate to earn the sweep of the doubleheader.

Starting pitcher Ashley Cavender (2-1) tossed a complete game, striking out six for the Lady Hurricanes.

Miller finished the day with five hits and six RBI's as Southwestern earned their fourth straight victory at the friendly confines of Lady 'Cane Field.

GSW will be back in action Thursday, Feb. 21, as the Blue & Gold travel to Fort Valley State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader

    Smithville native Chris Moates accomplished a rare feat on Tuesday when he was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week for the Yale Bulldogs. With the selection, the sophomore flame thrower became the second Yale pitcher in as many weeks to be named the Pitcher of the Week.

On Tuesday night in Buena Vista, Price had all of his pitches working to perfection against the Hawkinsville Red Devils. With a complete-game effort from their ace on the mound, the Marion County Eagles were able to defeat Hawkinsville 7-1 and take a firm grasp on the third place position in the region.

In the boy/girl doubleheader, Crisp County and Americus-Sumter repeated their season-opening match scores with the Lady Cougars winning the girls match before the Panthers claimed a 4-1 win in the boys match to end the night.
