Marion County, Dooly County set to square off for a trip to the semifinals
The small town of Buena Vista will come to life on Friday night with the color red featured proudly in anticipation of a high profile GHSA playoff football game. The Marion County Eagles will need all of their local support as they welcome the Dooly County Bobcats to their town for the second time this season, this time with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
Raiders, Lady Raiders stay hot with sweep of Byne Christian
Southland Academy’s basketball teams got their seasons off to a great start last Tuesday by sweeping Windsor Academy, and they kept their hot start going on Saturday with another sweep in front of their home crowd. Following a one-sided Lady Raider win over the Lady Saints, the Raiders ended the day with a 49-point win over the Byne boys to complete the sweep.
Americus-Sumter swept by Lee Co. in season opener
Americus-Sumter’s Lady Panther and Panther basketball teams opened their respective seasons on Saturday, and each team fell to their Lee County opponent on the road. With the Lady Trojan girl’s taking the first game 48-38, the Lee County boy’s team completed the sweep with a 61-51 victory over the Panthers.
'Canes remain unbeaten, win streak at six
Alan Arnett scored a game-high 23 points and Johathon Brooks posted his third double-double of the season by adding 17 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to help Georgia Southwestern remain undefeated and lead the Hurricanes to a 64-61 victory over Clark Atlanta on Saturday evening.

The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team lost to Valdosta State 71-50 in Valdosta's Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Webster, Schley split season opening basketball doubleheader
On the opening night of the 2013 basketball season, Webster County and Schley County were each able to earn a victory in doubleheader in Preston last Friday night. Schley County’s Trenity Coleman gave the Lady ‘Cats bragging rights with a over time buzzer beater game-winning shot, but the homestanding Bobcats claimed that honor in the second contest behind a dominant first half.

Eagles soar in playoff opener against Turner, will face Dooly Co. in Elite Eight
Marion County won the Region 4-A championship this season for the fourth straight year and entered the GHSA Class A Public playoffs as the number two team in the power rankings. They proved exactly why they are ranked so highly in their Friday night playoff opener in Buena Vista by pitching a shutout in a 30-0 win over the Turner County Rebels.
