Americus
Outdoor Watering Ban: City of Americus residents living north of Lamar Street are allowed to water outside Monday, Wednesday and Saturday while those living south of Lamar Street can water Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Outdoor watering is allowed only between midnight and 10 a.m. Watering between 10 a.m. and midnight is prohibited.
Flu Shots: The Sumter County Health Department has flu shots available from 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Medicaid and Memdicare accepted co-pay apply. Private pay is $23 (no insurance accepted for flu shots).

Concert Series: Georgia Southwestern State University has announced its 2008-09 Chamber Concert Series: Oct. 9, Eric Mintel Quartet and the GSW Concert Choir (at the Rylander Theater); Oct. 20, Blair String Quartet; Nov. 18, Rebecca Lanning, mezzo-soprano; Jan. 22, Montana Skies, cello and guitar (at Calvary Episcopal Church); Feb. 10, Joe Chapman, piano; March 19, Swiss Winds and Michiko Otaki, piano. All performances are at 7:30 p.m. at GSW's Jackson Performance Hall, unless otherwise noted.
Season tickets available: adults/$45, GSW faculty/staff $40, senior citizens/$35 and Habitat for Humanity volunteer/$25. GSW students and children 15 and under are admitted free. Tickets to individual performances are also available. For more information or tickets, call 931-2204.
Computer Class: Lake Blackshear Regional Library offers Introduction to Microsoft Publisher at 11a.m. Oct. 11, PC Maintenance & Security at 1 a.m. Oct. 18, Introduction to Microsoft Powerpoint at 11 a.m. Oct. 25. Each class lasts an hour. All classes are free and open to the public on a first come, first served basis. Babysitting Course: Sumter Regional Hospital offers Safe SitterŪ, a babysitting course for middle school students, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 13 at the new Sumter Regional Hospital East (SRHE) Classroom, in the HealthPlex II across the parking lot from Sumter Regional Hospital East. Safe SitterŪ is for boys and girls ages 11-14 (students must be 11 by the date of the class). Registration is required, and the cost to participate is $30 (some scholarships are available).
