AMERICUS — This Week


Meeting Date Change: The joint special called meeting scheduled for Monday between the Sumter County Board of Commissioners and the City of Americus, City of Andersonville, City of Plains, City of Leslie, and the City of Desoto has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at South Georgia Technical College at the Pope Center. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss 2014 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) projects. The meeting is open to the public.

Free Computer Classes: Lake Blackshear Regional Library offers Personal Computer Basics at 11a.m. Saturday. Class lasts an hour. Free and open to the public on a first come, first served basis. Stop by the library at 307 E. Lamar St. in Americus, call 924-8091 or visit for more information.

Red Cross Class: The American Red Cross offers  Adult First Aid/CPR/AED class from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Flint River Chapter Office, 1509 Crawford St. Cost is $90 per person. Red Cross training courses meet OSHA guidelines and include two-year certifications, free digital materials and skill refreshers. Meet and Greet: Patricia “Penny” Taft has a meet and greetfrom 1-3 p.m. Saturday in the Plains City Park. Taft is a candidate for the Sumter County School Board Election.

Looking Ahead


Authority Meeting: The Americus-Sumter County Industrial Development Authority meets at 4 p.m. March 4 at the Rees Park Economic Development Center, 409 Elm Ave., in the conference room on the second floor. The Payroll Development Authority meeting immediately follows. Both are open to the public.

Blue Revue Scholarship Pageant: The Blue Revue Scholarship Pageant, hosted by the Omicron Alpha Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8 in the Fine Arts Theatre on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University. Five young ladies will compete for the title of Miss Blue Revue and Miss Little Blue Revue. Admission is $5.
