Meeting Date Change: The Sumter County Board of Commissioners has changed the date of its regular meeting for May. The regular meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. May 20 has been changed to 6 p.m. May 22 at the Sumter County Courthouse in the Board of Commissioners’ Board Room located at 500 W. Lamar St. The meeting is open to the public.

Support Group: The Living Healthy to Beat Diabetes Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m. May 20 in the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Private Dining Room. Guest speaker is Sharon Hall, Nurse Practitioner. For details, call 229-931-4975 or via e-mail

Board Meeting: The Middle Flint Behavioral HealthCare Community Service board meets at 4:30 p.m. May 22 at the administrative offices, 415 N. Jackson St. The agenda is available upon request and the meeting is open to the public.

Introductory Meeting: New Horizons Habitat for Humanity has an introductory meeting for all those interested in applying for their homeownership program from 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 27 in the Clarence Jordan Center Auditorium at the corner of Church and Habitat streets. People who apply must be in need of a house due to living in substandard conditions, must be willing to put in sweat equity hours in the building of the home, and must be willing to make payments on an interest-free mortgage. Free Seminar: Free educational weight loss surgery seminar starts at 6:30 p.m. May 29 at the Wellness & Education Center Classroom on the campus of Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Fellowship trained bariatric surgeons Sean Sheff, M.D. and Jeremy Joyner, M.D. will address a variety of significant and sustained weight loss options.
