City and County Offices Closed: The offices of the City of Americus and the Sumter County Courthouse will close in observance of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 26, and reopen for business on Tuesday, May 27.
Introductory Meeting: New Horizons Habitat for Humanity has an introductory meeting for all those interested in applying for their homeownership program from 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 27 in the Clarence Jordan Center Auditorium at the corner of Church and Habitat streets. People who apply must be in need of a house due to living in substandard conditions, must be willing to put in sweat equity hours in the building of the home, and must be willing to make payments on an interest-free mortgage. Authority Meetings: The Americus-Sumter County Industrial Development Authority meets at 4 p.m. June 3, followed by the Americus-Sumter County Payroll Development Authority at the Rees Park Economic Development Center, 409 Elm Ave. in in the conference room on the second floor.
