AMERICUS – The South Georgia Technical College Jets and Lady Jets both coasted to important Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Conference (GCAA) victories Saturday over Albany Technical College. The Lady Jets opened up with an impressive 66 – 43 victory over the Lady Titans to move to 7 – 1 and 15 – 4. Then the Jets played their most complete game of the season to roll to an 84 – 67 win over the Titans. That victory put the Jets at 3 – 5 in the conference and 10 – 8 overall. It was their second consecutive conference win.

South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets head coach and Athletic Director said his team had a little trouble getting started in the first half, but came back and took care of business in the second half. The Lady Jets were only up 30 – 26 at the end of the first 20 minutes of playing time, but then came alive on offense and defense in the second half to pull ahead and capture the 66 – 43 victory. This was their third consecutive conference win and they are currently ranked second in the GCAA behind Darton State College.

Darton State College was upset Saturday by the third ranked Central Georgia Technical College Lady Titans in a 69 – 67 decision. South Georgia Tech defeated Central Georgia Tech 66 – 62 earlier this season and will face them again on Saturday, January 24th in Macon at 1 p.m. as part of another conference double-header.

South Georgia Tech freshman shooting guard Cierra Bond from Inkster, Michigan, led the Lady Jets in scoring Saturday with 16 points. She was seven of 12 from the field and two of six from the free throw line to secure her 16 points. Her scoring was pretty evenly balance with seven in the first half and nine in the second half.

Another freshman Deanna Williams was the only other Lady Jet in double-figures. She is also from Michigan and she tossed in 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Five other Lady Jets had six points each and they included Brittany Delva, Claudia Pelencio, TaQuandra Mike, Molly Brown, and Asia Smith.

In the men’s game, the Jets seemed to come together as a team with evenly balanced scoring in the first half and the second half and among the players. They were up 40 – 30 at the end of the first half and built on that momentum in the second half to capture the 84 – 67 victory.

Trey Mitchell, a sophomore from Hillside, IL, was the top scorer with 13 points, but there were four other Jets in double figures as well. Christian Nobles added 12 points, Austin Dasent came up with 11 and then Brandon Jackson and Deriece Parks both tossed in 10 points each.

South Georgia Tech pulled head by as many as 22 points in the second half before shutting down Albany Tech in the 84 – 67 victory. The win moved the Jets up to sixth place in the conference with a 3 – 5 GCAA record. Albany Tech is currently in last place with a 1 – 6 GCAA performance.

Both the Jets and the Lady Jets will face another GCAA opponent on Wednesday, January 21st when they host Georgia Perimeter in a double-header in the hangar at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Georgia Perimeter’s men are ninth in the conference with a 2 – 6 record and the women are in fourth place with a 5 – 3 GCAA performance.

Following the conference match-ups at home Wednesday night, the Jets and Lady Jets travel to Macon to take on Central Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, January 24th.
