AMERICUS — Hubert Carter Maddox Jr., 79, of 322 Wildwood Circle, died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. A native of Rochelle, he was born June 2, 1935. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a medic and went on to receive his registered nurse’s degree and also a master of divinity degree. He was a registered nurse educator at South Georgia College in Douglas and at Clemson University, and his last pastorate was St. Clare Episcopal Church in Blairsville, Ga.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 8, 2015, at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Wendy Peacock officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1122, Americus GA 31709 or to the church or charity of one’s choice.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Schwab Maddox of Americus; a daughter, Grace Maddox of Lyons, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Colleen Sprayberry of Newnan; a son, Hubert Carter Maddox III (Trey) of Lyons, Colo.; a stepson, Paul David Lipsey of Newnan; and a brother-in-law, Norton Futch of Americus; grandsons, Tyler Lipsey, Clark Lipsey, Stephen Sprayberry Jr., Wallace Sprayberry, and two great-grandsons, Tyler Paul Lipsey and Davis Clark Lipsey.
