AMERICUS — Ms. Mattie F. Thompson, 87, passed away early Wednesday morning, Jan. 28, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus. Funeral services will be held from the graveside at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev. James Beckett will officiate.

Ms. Thompson was born April 1, 1927, in Richland, Ga., the daughter of the late Homer Taylor Wooley and Willie Sara Ann Horn Wooley.  She was a seamstress at Manhattan Shirt Co., formerly of Americus, and was of the Baptist faith.

Ms. Thompson is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Faye Norris (Ronald) of Camilla, Ga. Also surviving are five grandchildren,  Wesley Norris, Ben Norris, Chris Norris, James Cox and Nicholas Cox; 14 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Ms. Thompson was preceded in death by three brothers, Jessie Wooley, Frank Wooley and James Wooley; two sisters, Ruby Pines and Janie Barfield; and two granddaughters, Sandy Ann Jackson and Tammy Jackson.
