Two arrested in armed robbery

AMERICUS — According to a press released from the Americus Police Department, they arrested a juvenile, Keithon Lashun Higgs, 16, Monday night at 807 Fulton St. in connection with an armed robbery at 701 Parkview Apartments, No. 6-B. The armed robbery occurred at approximately 7:36 p.m. hours and Higgs was taken into custody without incident at approximately 10 p.m. at 807 Fulton St. Higgs was transported to the Crisp County Regional Youth Detention Center by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Warrants were signed on Higgs Tuesday for armed robbery, aggravated assault, cruelty to children (third degree), and possession of tobacco products by person under 18 years of age. The local district attorney’s office said Higgs would be charged as an adult.

At around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the other suspect in connection with the armed robbery was a arrested, Anfranee Jamal Smothers, 19. Smothers is charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and cruelty to children. Smothers was booked and taken to the Sumter County Jail.
