AMERICUS — In a called meeting Monday, the Americus Mayor and City Council voted unanimously to enter an employment agreement between the City and the new interim CAO, Billy P. Beckett.

The terms of the contract are that Beckett will be paid $60 per hour and will work approximately 29 hours per week. Billable hours beyond that will have to be approved in advance by the mayor.

Beckett will be compensated $1,000 per month for living expenses and reimbursed for out of town travel. He will also be authorized to use vehicles owned by the City for business related travel outside the City limits. If a City vehicle is not available, he will be reimbursed for the use of his personal vehicle. His work schedule is anticipated to be from noon Monday until 5 p.m. Thursday until he reaches the 29 hours.

The agreement is for 90 days and can be terminated at any time by the Mayor and City Council. Beckett can also terminate the agreement with a 10-day written notice. He is regarded as an independent contractor and not an employee.

Beckett begins his new job at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
