THOMASVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team went 1-1 in their season opener double header against Thomas University Saturday at Armory Field.

GAME 1: GSW 1 – Thomas- 8

The first inning was more of a warm up as both teams had 0 runs, 0 hits and 0 errors. In the second GSW still had 0 runs, 0 hits and 0 errors but Thomas was able to make 5 runs, 5 hits and 1 error. The third made no difference for GSW still with 0 runs, 0 hits and 0 errors. Thomas was able to make another run in the third to lead 6-0 half way through game one. In the fourth Haley Goodson hit a homerun to give the Lady Canes their only run of the game. The Night Hawks made two more runs in the fifth to win the first game 8-1.

GSW had twenty three at bats and three hits by Goodson, Rachel McElroy and Lauren Thrasher.

Goodson took the loss for GSW after pitching six innings and facing thirty two batters. She gave up ten hits, six runs and struck out two.

GAME 1: GSW 5 – Thomas- 1

Both teams had one hit in the first but no runs and no hits in the second. GSW had no hits in the third and Thomas had two hits and one run to take the lead. In the fourth both teams had one hit. Keri Tompkins hit a home run to deep center for GSW in the fifth to tie the game 1-1. After Tomkins homer the Lady ‘Canes dug deep and picked up momentum.

In the sixth Mary Beth Wilson had the first hit and moved to second on a bunt from Erin Steele. McElroy popped one out to the out field and Allee Denney hit one down right field sending Wilson home. Thrasher hit one to second and got on first. Tompkins was up next and after hitting one deep to the left center she sent both Denney and Thrasher home for a 3 run home run. Thomas had one hit in the sixth and none in the seventh giving GSW a 5-2 win.

GSW had twenty seven at bat, seven hits and five runs.

Savannah Carlisle took the win for GSW after pitching seven innings and facing twenty nine batters. She gave up six hits, one run and struck out two.
