AMERICUS — The Americus Police Department had a busy weekend resulting in several arrests.

Detective Maj. Richard McCorkle said the U.S. Marshal Task Force was in the city on Friday, and in conjunction with local police, arrested a fugitive wanted for multiple burglaries in Central Georgia who had allegedly been in Americus since the previous Monday. James Mallory Brown, 40, of Gray was arrested without incident at approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Maruit Station, 1410 Crawford St. He was taken into custody and transported to a detention facility in Bibb County. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and failure to keep drugs in original container.

Local police also made a couple of other drug arrests over the weekend. Ricky Hart Sr., 49, of 431 Mayo St., Americus is charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. McCorkle said Hart was caught purchasing the pot at Parkview Apartments from Dexter L. Leverette, 25, of 701 Davenport St., Apt. 8-B, Americus, who was arrested Sunday and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Local police are also investigating an armed robbery in the parking lot of Parkview Apartments that occurred shortly after midnight Saturday night.
