Funeral shooter pleads guilty, sentenced to serve five years

AMERICUS — Helen Cason, a woman who shot her son-in-law after his mother’s funeral was sentenced in Sumter Superior Court Wednesday.

Helen Cason pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and multiple counts of reckless endangerment and cruelty to children in October 2013. She was sentenced to serve five years in prison.
