AMERICUS — Mr. Alvin E. Johnson, 84, passed away early Friday morning, Feb. 13, 2015, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center.  Funeral services will be held from the graveside at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dennis Johnson will officiate. The following are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers: Jeffrey Parker, Ralph Milam, Robert Walker, Jerry Melton, David Melton, Jimmy Usry, Gary Underwood and James Paige. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at the funeral home and other times, the family residence, 293 Upper River Road.

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Ellaville, Ga., son of the late Joe Riley Johnson and Hattie Lou Sorrells Johnson. He was retired from South Georgia Technical College where he worked in maintenance. He was a member of Cheek Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his beloved wife Nellie M. Johnson of Americus; a foster daughter, Patricia Garcia of Pitts, Ga.; three sisters, Helen Walker of Ellaville, Ga., Marjorie Harden of Americus and Jeanette Baxter of Perry, Ga. A brother and sister-in-law George Johnson and Cookie of Americus and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
